When you grant permission, we collect your device's location to show fire risk information for your area. This data is:
- Used only to fetch weather conditions for your location
- Not stored on our servers
- Not shared with third parties (except as described in "Third-Party Services")
- Managed through iOS location permissions
We retrieve weather information from Apple's WeatherKit service based on your location or searched locations. This includes temperature, humidity, and wind speed data used to calculate fire risk.
If you opt in, we collect anonymous usage data through Amplitude, including:
- App features you use
- How often you use the app
- Settings preferences (temperature units, etc.)
- General device information (iOS version, device model)
- Location names at city/state level (e.g., "Santa Clarita, California") for debugging purposes
This data is anonymous and cannot be linked to your precise location or identity. We only collect location names (not exact GPS coordinates) to help debug issues in different regions and timezones.
If you opt in, we automatically collect crash reports through Amplitude when the app encounters errors. These reports include:
- Device model and iOS version
- App version
- Technical error information
- Anonymous device identifier
No personal information or location data is included in crash reports.
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide fire risk information based on your location's weather conditions
- Improve the app by understanding which features are used and how
- Fix bugs and crashes to make the app more stable and reliable
- Prioritize new features based on anonymous usage patterns
We will never:
- Sell your data to third parties
- Use your data for advertising
- Share your personal information with marketers

- Choices: Never, Ask Next Time, While Using App, Always
- In-app control: You can always search for locations manually instead of using your current location
- Toggle in app: Settings → Privacy → Help Improve Fire Risk
- Can change anytime: Your choice is saved and respected immediately
- Toggle in app: Settings → Privacy → Crash Reports
- Can change anytime: Your choice is saved and respected immediately
- Precise location data (GPS coordinates): Not stored; used only for real-time weather requests
- Location names (city/state level): Included in optional analytics data, retained by Amplitude according to their retention policy (typically 2 years)
- Weather data: Cached temporarily on your device for app performance
- Analytics data: Retained by Amplitude according to their retention policy (typically 2 years)
- Crash reports: Retained until the issue is resolved, then deleted
We take reasonable precautions to protect your information:
- Location requests use secure HTTPS connections
- Weather data is encrypted in transit
- Analytics data is anonymized and cannot identify you personally
- We follow Apple's security best practices for iOS apps
Fire Risk does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is designed for general audiences and does not target children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of data we've collected about you
- Deletion: Request deletion of your data
- Opt-out: Disable analytics and crash reporting at any time

Fire Risk is available worldwide. If you're outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where our servers and third-party services are located.
