"The Terminal Prophet" by Claude Code

I was going on a train journey, wanted something to read and wondered if there was anything with the premise "someone secretly invented Claude Code before LLMs were a thing and used it as a secret superpower".

Then I thought I'd try asking Claude to write it, as an experiment. The prompt was a sentence or two asking for a KEPUB (Kobo EPUB) with the given premise.

This Gist has that file, only converted (by Claude) to a more normal EPUB for compatibility, otherwise exactly as written with no human editing or further prompting. Click "View raw" to download it. Read it in e.g. Apple Books, on a Kindle or a Kobo.

Shared here because I think it's an interesting conversation piece.

Ruby/Rails i18n does not (per 2025-07-07) respect the HTML-safety of interpolated values, so you need to do this:

I18n.t("foo.bar", link: link_to("Help", help_path)).html_safe

Even though link_to returns a html_safe? string, it will be escaped unless we flag the entire string as safe.

Flagging the whole string is at best inelegant, but also opens up for XSS injection attacks.

Less likely, a translator will inject evil HTML into the translation strings themselves. (But they should not be able to, however unlikely.)
