Hey, all --

I wanted to let you know that I'm planning on retiring from work in the public hacking scene.

Atmosphere (and my work on the Switch) have been an enormous labor of love for me for the past eight and a half years, and it's been an honor for me to dedicate so much of my life towards this kind of work.

That said, I am getting older. I find myself with less time to dedicate towards it, more responsibilities, and a changing personal life.

Particularly with my hoping to have kids in a foreseeable time horizon, I'm thinking I have to re-evaluate how much time I can spend on hobby projects.

I have the kind of personality that doesn't want to put in only a little work; I think that less-than-a-full retirement would likely lead to no actual changes in the time I put in.

I've truly appreciated getting to work with so many talented people (many of whom have been close friends for so many years), and I appreciate everyone's understanding as I try to transition to the next phase of my life.

I don’t think it’s possible to measure how much joy your work sparked. The hangouts, the parties, the late-night sessions, the bonding moments, and even friendships that happened because you built and shared these tools.

I hope you’re proud of what you made. Wishing you nothing but good things in this next chapter, enjoy the new ride ahead. 🙂
